V8 Pub & Restaurant

Hello!
Long time since I haven't posted anything to my blog (ages actually).
Many things have happened in Uruguay....good things actually.

The country has been growing since the 2001-02 crisis and we are enjoying good times (although we are far from perfect). The 2008 World Crisis (is it the Great Recession?) did not affect the uruguayan macroeconomy thanks to high commodity prices.

Anyways, it's not about economy that I want to talk about in this post. It's about a great Pub and Restaurant that I highly recommend.

V8 is located at the Rambla Costanera and Juan D. Jackson, at the Parque Rodó neighbourhood. It is surrounded by the Mercosur Headquarters, the US Embassy and many other pubs and restaurants at Parque Rodó. It is a great area to spend the afternoon at the Rambla and then head for some drinks, beers and pizzas at V8. The pizzas are just excellent!

Not only that but you can hang out until 2am with friends, sing some Karaoke if you dare or organize an private party.

The Pub is served by their Owners (Marcelo and Miguel) who are very cool guys and will give you excellent service.

I'm talking from experience because I organized my birthday party there about 2 months ago. I had a great time with friends & family, we sung Karaoke (no one would make American Idol), had many Budweisers and pizzas (their specialty).

What's even more importantly, the Pub has very affordable prices compared to the other places in the area.

If you go to V8 don't forget to leave some comments!

Take care!

Like Horses? Polo?

This time of the year is when the Polo Spring season begins in Uruguay. The most important championships are played in parallel with the Argentine season. If you are a Polo fan then this an excellent time to visit Uruguay where you can play and besides you can go to Argentina to see some of the best matches in the whole year.

Uruguay has four major polo "centers" or regions where you will find most of the activity. These are Montevideo, Río Negro, Mercedes and Punta del Este.

In Montevideo you can visit the Carrasco Polo Club where in addition to Polo you can see Jumping.
In Río Negro you can visit the "Río Negro Polo Club" located in Young. This is my hometown and of course the best place to play polo!! ;-)
If you are interested in practicing polo, buying horses or playing some tournaments, visit us at "La Polaca" Polo Farm and we'll be happy to arrange something.
In Mercedes you will find the "Morteros Polo Club". This is a relatively new club which is becoming better every year, and they have very good players.
Finally, in Punta del Este there are two clubs, Medellin Polo Club and Punta del Este Polo Club which was resurrected a few years ago. Both of them are beautiful clubs.

Enjoy it!!

Uruguay among the top "green" countries

Today I read about a list published by the Reader's Digest that ranks Uruguay among the top 10 greenest countries in the World. Of the top ten, only Australia(8) and Uruguay(9) are from the Southern Hemishpere.

I think this is pretty cool...don't you? Read the news here

Punta del Este

How could I call this a touristic blog if I didn't include a reference to Punta del Este...our Crown Jewel.

Some refer to it as the Saint Tropez of South America but we like to call it just "Punta". Argentineans consider it their own (because they conquer it every January) and we, Uruguayans, usually grunt when they make jokes about it. Typical neighbors quarrel. Although I should mention that this fact has been changing in the last few years, more Brazilians are coming every year as well as Europeans and Americans (actually, last January everywhere I went I heard people speaking in English).

I won't say anything about Punta that hasn't been said before or that you can't find on Google...great beaches, amazing nightlife, the hottest women on Earth, celebrities from all over the world, sports, the best cars and so on.

Instead, I will write about a characteristic that I consider one of the most important ones based on my experiences when vacationing in Punta. In a nutshell, it is a place that fits all wallets. From the topmost, hottest and richest celebrity that spends $10,000 a day, to a student who stays at the municipal camping ground and everything that you can imagine in between. So, rest assured that if you are one, the other or in between you will find your "spot" in Punta del Este and you will never forget it.

Check the ads if you are interested in renting houses in Punta del Este or buying Real Estate.

Enjoy it!!

The best Agro, Industrial and Commercial Exhibition

Hi Again,
I wanted to inform everyone that the "Expo Prado" is being held in Montevideo from Sept 5 to Sept 12.
This is the most important exhibition in the country and it is organized every year by the Uruguay Rural Association.

If you are interested in seeing the best cattle, horses, sheep and other animals that Uruguay has to offer you should visit the Expo. If not now maybe next year.

You could also put a stand with the product that you want to offer. If you want to have a presence in Uruguay this is a good place to start as the expo receives hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Or you can just go if you happen to be visiting Montevideo during that time. It is a great opportunity to see Uruguay's culture, commerce and industry condensed in a single place.

For more facts you can go to http://www.expoprado.com/portada_ing.htm

Finally, if you like horses you definitely need to go because during the expo "jineteadas" take place. Jineteadas are similar to Rodeo competitions but the "gaucho" way. They are considered a National Sport since 2006. Take a look at this video

Enjoy it!!

PS: Thanks Seba for the tip
